Lily Gao played Ada Wong in the new Resident Evil 4 Remake. Some people didn’t like her performance, and they started harassing her on Instagram. Lily Gao decided to delete all of her posts except for one about privilege in society.
Some people may criticize one particular performance in any form of media, but Criticizing someone as a whole in a series as big as Resident Evil isn’t really a fair thing to do.
After the harassment and Gao’s retreat, we’re seeing the other side of things as people try to rally to her side and support her. They think she did a good job.
Some old interviews have come out that show how excited Lara was to play Ada Wong in the game.
Gao played Ada Wong in the 2021 movie Resident Evil. Wong was teased for future seasons of the Netflix series Resident Evil, but it was canceled before that could happen. Capcom liked her so much in the movie, they decided to have her do the voicework and performance for the game too.
This is really sad. We don’t think anyone deserves to be treated this way, and it’s happening too often with Resident Evil games. This is not the first time something like this has happened. I hope Gao is able to return and continue working, but given recent events, it’s possible she may need some time away from the internet.
