Instead, they should leave the egg for the Merchant to sell and grab one of the regular eggs that the chickens will lay sporadically in the room.
To equip an egg, go to the attache case and choose to do so. Once you have done so, aim the egg at the portrait of the villain and let it fly. This will cause the egg to crack and smear across the picture, which is a good reward in and of itself. But be sure to head back to the Merchant and claim the reward of 4 Spinels for a fun outing.
